Champion of the Constitution Justice Antonin Scalia Dead at 79

From Business Insider.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead in Texas on Saturday, according to multiple reports.

The office of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement on Scalia’s death late Saturday afternoon.

“Justice Antonin Scalia was a man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law. He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution,” Abbott said in the statement.

The US Marshall’s Service confirmed Scalia’s death later Saturday.

Reports from local ABC affiliate KVIA and San Antonio News-Express suggested Scalia, 79, died after spending time at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a luxury resort outside Marfa, Texas.

KVIA reported that Scalia “did not report feeling ill … and retired to his room after dinner” Friday night.

Scalia was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. He was the longest-serving Justice on the current Supreme Court bench.

Scalia is survived by his wife, Maureen, and their nine children.

Reacting to the news of Scalia’s death, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said Scalia was one of the “handful of most influential Supreme Court justices in history.”

“Only a handful have enormous personal legacies,” he said, and Scalia was one of them. “His departure leaves a huge political fight in the offing.”

Justice Scalia was one of the best appointments to the Supreme Court, ever. He minced no words when it came to Obama’s lawless, Constitutional violations. He slammed Barky’s approach to illegal aliens  and leveled scathing criticism at his fellow justices for creating gay marriage laws that are not included in the Constitution or the amendments.

Barky is salivating at the opportunity to fill Scalia’s seat with a leftwing shitbag to join the other proglodytes on the Supreme Court; Sotomayor, Kagan, Ginsberg, and Breyer.

Mitch McConnell insists:

The Dems are chomping at the bit to ram another leftard onto the bench, but the Republicans (so far) are refusing to budge:

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley, who controls the committee schedule for handling nominees, likewise said he supports deferring until next year, saying Obama has already turned the courts into a political battleground, so voters should be asked to referee.

“The fact of the matter is that it’s been standard practice over the last 80 years to not confirm Supreme Court nominees during a presidential election year,” he said. “Given the huge divide in the country, and the fact that this president, above all others, has made no bones about his goal to use the courts to circumvent Congress and push through his own agenda, it only makes sense that we defer to the American people who will elect a new president to select the next Supreme Court justice.”

If all goes well, Ted Cruz will be elected in 2016, and as of 2017, we will have a someone worthy of the honor of wearing Scalia’s robe.

RIP, Justice Scalia.

The existence of the United States of America, as Constituted, now depends on the backbone and will of the Senate Republican leadership. I am very afraid for my country. Keep your powder dry, folks, this could get rough.

Side thought: Justice Scalia’s most untimely death comes at a suspiciously convenient time for those whose stated aim is to “fundamentally change America.” Just sayin’.
