Well, their mayor wanted to ‘give space to those who wish to destroy’.
They took full advantage.
From Fox News.
Morning broke in Baltimore Tuesday to reveal a city scarred by a night of rioting and looting, as officials moved to ensure that the lawlessness that broke out after the funeral of a black man who died of injuries apparently suffered in police custody would not be repeated.
Looted storefronts were being boarded up, burned cars hauled away and as many as 15 police officers injured in rioting that broke out when high school kids used social media to launch a coordinated “Purge,” the slang term taken from a movie and meaning a night where laws are not observed. Amid the rioting Monday night, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake strongly condemned the “thugs” behind the mayhem and announced a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew beginning Tuesday and lasting at least a week.
“Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs who, in a very senseless way, are trying to tear down what so many have fought for,” the mayor said. “It’s idiotic to think that by destroying your city, you’re going to make life better for anybody.”
Despite reports of a gang pact to attack police officers, those injured appeared to have been hurt by rock-throwing youngsters in an early confrontation. For most of the evening, police battled flare-ups around the city before National Guard troops arrived in Baltimore shortly after midnight and helped quell the rioting.
Rawlings-Blake virtually gave them permission to rampage. She should have had a full contingent of officers on hand and the National Guard on speed dial in preparation for the inevitable. Instead, she let the animals run wild.
In a late-night press conference, Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts blamed the violence in his city on high school students who “thought it was cute to throw cinder blocks at police.”
An admittedly exhausted Batts claimed that a meeting took place between various gangs including the Bloods and the Crips, in which members pledged to kill police officers following Freddie Gray’s funeral earlier today.
However, the police chief insisted the main instigators of today’s unrest were local “youthful residents” who “came out of a local high school” and “outnumbered and outflanked” police.
Batts updated on the condition of six officers who were seriously injured in the riots, saying they were all expected to recover.
“Take control of your kids,” Batts urged parents in closing. “This is our city. Let’s make a difference.”
At least one woman took charge. She smacked the fuck out of her punk azz son for joining in the mayhem:
A Baltimore mother is being hailed for doing her part to quell the violence on after a video of her smacking her son upside the head when she spotted him rioting and throwing rocks at police emerged on Monday.
The unidentified mom recognized her son even though he was wearing a black ski mask that covered much of his face.
When the mother spotted her son, who was also dressed in all black, on TV throwing rocks she went after him like a heat-seeking missile.
The encounter, which was captured by WMAR. didn’t take long but it certainly looked painful for the regretful rioter.
Blows rained down on the son’s head as he struggled to get away while a large crowd looked on.
He eventually was able to separate himself from his mother, but not before she had gotten the mask off of his face.
As he walked away from the scene, his mother trailed after him while carrying a pink cellphone.
The video did not fly under the radar on social media either and many Twitter users began re-posting it and saying the woman was the ‘Mom of the Year’.
One woman wrote: ‘That MOM in Baltimore that Smacked her kid for Looting, deserves MOM of the YEAR. Other MOMS should be doing the same!’
Another woman said: ‘Baltimore doesn’t need the National Guard – they need more parents like this one!’
Fox business reporter Charles V Payne chimed in: ‘Mom of the year in Baltimore… my mother would have did same thing…’
A man joked: ‘Make sure it’s ok with your parents before rioting.’
Major news media outlets have failed to report one of the main leaders of the “splinter group” of Baltimore protesters who turned violent is a notorious racist and the former national chairman of the New Black Panther Party, WND has found.
The New York Times, the Associated Press, the New York Daily News, CBS local and other news media outlets all name Malik Shabazz as a leader of the breakaway, chaotic protests. Yet each of these news outlets only identify Shabazz only as “president of Black Lawyers for Justice.”
……Reported the New York Times on the Baltimore riots: “There, Malik Shabazz, president of Black Lawyers for Justice, a Washington, D.C.-based group that called for the demonstration and advertised it on social media, told the crowd that he would release them in an hour, adding: ‘Shut it down if you want to! Shut it down!’
“Mr. Shabazz said in a later interview that his rhetoric was intended only to encourage civil disobedience – not violence – but added that he was ‘not surprised’ by the scattered angry outbursts because people here ‘haven’t received justice.’”
The New York Daily News informed its readers: “‘Things will change on Saturday, and the struggle will be amplified,’ said Malik Shabazz of Black Lawyers for Justice. ‘It cannot be business as usual with that man’s spine broken, with his back broken, with no justice on the scene.’
CBS Local featured a photo of Shabazz leading protest chants in Baltimore yesterday, with a caption that identified the radical simply as “Attorney Malik Shabazz.”
Later in the article, CBS reported: “Malik Shabazz of Black Lawyers for Justice has demanded the arrest of six officers involved in the arrest of Gray, who died Sunday a week after suffering a spinal injury while in police custody.”
Shabazz is a real piece of shit. He’s a big proponent of ‘killing whitey’.
There’s also a report by the Baltimore Sun that the riots may have been fueled by a plan to act out violence portrayed in the movie “Purge”, which was accompanied by a flyer announcing the event.
