The Entitlement Culture: Howard University Student Says, “I Want the Government to Help Me”

This is the kind of generation being spawned by a sense of entitlement, not earning the American dream.

A Howard University student tells Rand Paul he expects the government to “help him”:

“Good afternoon, Senator. My name is Keenan Glover, I’m an administration of justice major from Rochester, New York. A freshman, as well. You say you want to provide a government that leaves us alone. Quite frankly, I don’t want that. I want a government that is going to help me. I want a government that is going to help me fund my college education. I want a government that won’t define me by my FAFSA or by my family’s income. I’m a dollar sign with a heartbeat in this nation. This society is a mirror image of Capitol Hill. Do you, Senator Rand Paul, have a solution to come up with new American values so that the citizens of this nation have a worth of more than dead presidents and Ben Franklin?”

I hate to break this to Glover, but he’s already defined himself as a government dependent; as diametrically opposed to traditional American values as you can get.

Anyone who thinks the government should help them get through life has no intention or motivation to make it on their own.   If you have the determination to succeed you’ll probably have a net worth of lots of dead presidents.

As I’ve said before:

The entitlement culture runs the gamut from Francis Fox-Piven’s ideology of violent revolution for ‘redistribution of wealth’, to free internet access for ‘nappy-headed children’ to illegal aliens, to the union thugs.

America has devolved into a society that no longer believes in the rugged individualism, courage, and self-determination that made us a once great nation. A large part of the population is composed of an able-bodied but lazy segment of society that siphons off the public dole. Every developed country has them. It’s a perpetual welfare class that doesn’t work because they don’t have to. Many of them never have. They know how to manipulate the system and they pass it to their children like a fucking family heirloom. Speaking of children, some of the welfare queens are just as allergic to birth control as they are to job hunting.

No one gave me a free meal ticket in life. I come from a working class family. My environment was far from prosperous. My mother raised 7 kids, mostly by herself. We all worked. My two older step sisters worked two part time jobs, and my mother worked to make ends meet.  At the age of  18, I joined the United States Army and served the country for a total of 30 years.  I also earned a college degree (with the help of my GI Bill and part time employment) without incurring thousands of dollars in student loans and demanding that someone else pay for it.

We believe in a helping hand, not a handout.

Parents are supposed to set an example of values, principles, and work ethic to help their kids have a better life than they did. The opportunities are there. You have to do something besides sit on your ass and complain about how unfair it is that the ‘evil rich’ have so much money. Ordinary rational humans wouldn’t want to destroy their countries’ economy and penalize wage-earners with more taxation.  But, that’s the goal of the class-warfare neo-Bolsheviks in the White House and the Democratic party.

Obama encourages a ‘Life of Julia’ fantasy; a product of a socialist cradle-to-grave Nanny State.

Every time Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream and the welfare class reacts like a bunch nine year olds.

They want ice cream.

The rest of working Americans know they’re going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

    James,
The Homestead Act was implemented to help the agricultural growth of this country. When Abraham Lincoln signed it into law it was meant as an economic boost to the country through the production of crops. Individual farmers could own and operate their own farms, thus working for a living by producing goods and selling them on the market. Make sense?
The current welfare class siphons off the working taxpayer with no intention of becoming a productive member of society. The kind of “help” Glover is looking for is the massive government “safety net” that rewards failure and penalizes success.

No one became successful or wealthy living off the government, except politicians and their special interest groups. Howard University student thinks differently. […]

You mean a handout like the multiple Homestead Acts in our nation’s history?
