In 2004, then Senator Obama opposed legislation providing an exception to handgun restrictions if the weapon was used in the defense of one’s home. The bill passed anyway.
Obama said this at a 2008 campaign stop in Pennsylvania:
A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president. Obama trotted out his standard policy stance, that he had a deep respect for the “traditions of gun ownership” but favored measures in big cities to keep guns out of the hands of “gang bangers and drug dealers’’ in big cities “who already have them and are shooting people.”
“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.
So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’
These are the same people he called ‘bitter, gun clinging’ xenophobes, just five months earlier.
Biden in 2008:
Obama on Wednesday tapped Vice President Biden to lead an administration-wide effort looking at gun control and other measures in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting last week.
…The move marks the first concrete step by the White House toward crafting new firearms restrictions. The president did not announce any major policy decisions on Wednesday, but said the task force of Cabinet officials and outside organizations led by Biden would submit legislative proposals to him no later than January.
…The president said Wednesday that he chose Biden to lead the task force in part because of his role in crafting the 1994 assault-weapons ban. Obama spoke favorably of the ban, as well as proposals to strengthen background checks and ban high-capacity magazines.
Holder got into the act in 1995, by comparing gun owners with embarrassed smokers.
The NRA met with Sheriff Joe Biden on Thursday, and came away with what we already knew: Obama’s agenda has more to do with attacking the Second Amendment and violating the rights of legal gun owners, than it does with keeping people safe.
In keeping with Obama’s policy of ‘never letting a good crisis go to waste’, his regime is exploiting this atrocity with personal fund-raising tactics and political tyranny.
BTW: He’s so concerned about guns that he signed a bill granting him armed protection for life.
I can say with all certainty that gun owners like myself will not tolerate an out-of-control, Constitution-violating, power-grabbing SCOAMF like Obama, trying to disarm us for his own delusions of dictatorial grandeur.
