If it weren’t so pathetic, it would be funny.
The liberal group Media Matters has quietly transformed itself in preparation for what its founder, David Brock, described in an interview as an all-out campaign of “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” aimed at the Fox News Channel.
The group, launched as a more traditional media critic, has all but abandoned its monitoring of newspapers and other television networks and is narrowing its focus to Fox and a handful of conservative websites, which its leaders view as political organizations and the “nerve center” of the conservative movement. The shift reflects the centrality of the cable channel to the contemporary conservative movement, as well as the loathing it inspires among liberals — not least among the donors who fund Media Matters’ staff of about 90, who are arrayed in neat rows in a giant war room above Massachusetts Avenue.
“The strategy that we had had toward Fox was basically a strategy of containment,” said Brock, Media Matters’ chairman and founder and a former conservative journalist, adding that the group’s main aim had been to challenge the factual claims of the channel and to attempt to prevent them from reaching the mainstream media.
The new strategy, he said, is a “war on Fox.”
Their tactics will include “embarassing clips” and “opposition research files”. Oooooooo, I bet that’ll give Fox News a scare. BWHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!
In order to prevent factual claims from reaching the MSM, you must first be under the illusion that the MSM is interested in all the facts to begin with. The bulk of the anlysis and reporting slant at NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, CNN and MSNBC, is leftwing. From Brian Williams to Chris Matthews, their propaganda is presented as “news” with little or no challenge to their claims.
Fox News provides a substantial counterpoint, with high ratings to boot, and that scares the shit out of the MSM elites. Matter of fact, Fox News’ ratings are consistently higher than the other networks:
- Total day: FNC: 348 | MSNBC: 115 | CNN: 207 | HLN: 86
- Primetime: FNC: 512 | MSNBC: 223 | CNN: 244 | HLN: 118
It must suck for Brock to know that most people don’t tune into his beloved media hacks.
One of Brock’s biggest crybaby episodes involved a snooty letter he sent to News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch, opining that Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin hurt his widdoo feewings. Awwwwww.
The little priss bitched about Glenn Beck’s supposed “violent and revolutionary rhetoric”, (has he seen the Left’s lately?), which prompted Beck to use Brock’s hissy fit as fodder for hilarious satire on his radio show.
Dear Mr. Murdoch,
Since the early days of 2009, I have warned your network and others in the media about the very real dangers of extreme anti-government rhetoric and the stoking of fear.
I cautioned against Glenn Beck’s proclamation that he was a “progressive hunter” and his statement that the government was full of vampires before he instructed his viewers to “drive a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers.” And against Palin revealing her 2010 “targets” with a map showing gun sights over 20 congressional districts, including that of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, urging followers to not “Retreat, Instead — RELOAD.” I said on national television that inducing fear, anger, and the use of violent imagery creates a climate of fear, suspicion, and paranoia that could lead to another Oklahoma City.
I hoped my warnings would be heeded. Instead, they were cast aside.
Even after evidence emerged in October that California gunman Byron Williams was inspired by Beck to attempt to assassinate progressive leaders and I pleaded for Palin to set an example by condemning her Fox colleague’s violent and revolutionary rhetoric, Fox did nothing to address the situation.
On Beck’s radio show, he and Palin jovially mocked my concern. For seven minutes on air, the pair joked about my plea to tone down the rhetoric. Beck said it was “laughable,” “sad,” and compared me to the “smelly kid in third grade.” Palin giggled and said I was “silly” and that my argument was “pathetic” and “desperate” before ultimately concluding, “I stand with you, Glenn.”
They mocked me *SOB*. Nice to know that Brock found himself a comfortable home when he defected from the right. He and his crusading myrmidons should put on quite a circus. All 90 of them.
