‘Tea Party’ Tax Protests Held Nationwide (UPDATES)

TEA= Taxed Enough Already

UPDATE:
Even in San Francisco, Pres. Obama cannot escape protesters. He held a fundraiser at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco tonight (Thursday, 15 October) and a crowd turned out across the street on Union Square to let him know what they thought:That cable car is climbing Powell Street which separates Union Square from the St. Francis Hotel.

……Here is a shot of the central section which, as you can tell from the signs, was largely Tea Partiers:
http://thecitysquare.blogspot.com/2009/10/tea-party-greets-obama-in-san-francisco.html

San Francisco….now there’s a shock.
The Aggies also protested:

Several hundred protesters have gathered at Texas A&M University to protest President Barack Obama’s visit to the campus.

The protesters gathered Friday (16 October) hours before Obama was to speak on the College Station campus at the invitation of former President George H.W. Bush. The protesters were allowed to gather at a park near the auditorium where Obama would speak but he would not be able to see them as a parking garage blocked the view from the park.

The president is set to speak at a Friday forum on community service.

Bush had said the event was not political. Nevertheless, the protesters gave speeches criticizing Obama’s efforts to reform health care. Many of the protesters were from anti-tax Tea Party groups that bused in members from around the state.

I cannot believe that former President George H.W. Bush would even give a socialist assclown like Obama the time of day. Incredible. But, kudos to the Aggies.

UPDATE:
In Chicago, a rally numbered in the thousands:

Billed as a protest against taxes and government spending, the national Tea Party’s stop in New Lenox became a gathering of local conservatives and a call to action on national political issues.

“As much as we say the system failed us, maybe we failed the system as well,” said Joliet resident Tim Kraulidis, who helped organize Monday’s event. “We can’t complain … that our legislators are doing things we don’t want them to do and then we don’t engage the system.”
About 6,000 people packed the hillside venue at The Commons Performing Arts Pavilion for the protest, part of a nationwide Tea Party Express tour that includes speeches, musical performances and updates from a traveling Fox News correspondent.

Monday’s audience was the largest yet, organizers said.

Hundreds of protesters rallied against Obamacare today at Senator Claire McCaskill’s office on Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri.
Her office was closed today so they didn’t have to lock us out and call the cops. (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/07/mccaskills-office-locks-doors-pulls.html)

Great success, thanks to everyone for coming and all the creative chants. Congrats to Stacie Burke, James Bowman and Natasha Hampton of TnTeaparty.org for a great event.
We had advertised our rally to start in front of Congressman Jim Cooper’s office at 12:30. When we showed up, having driven from the Franklin rally, 100 or so Pro-Obamacare demonstrators had already taken the area in front of Cooper’s office so we assembled on an adjacent corner. Had a great time exchanging chants with the Obamacare people.

22 August 2009
Tampa, Florida

About two dozen people showed in front of Rep. Kathy Castor’s office today in Tampa to protest against government intrusion in to health care. The group was cheered on by passing motorists who honked horns, gave the “thumbs up” and several rolled down their windows and yelled “keep up the good work” and other words of encouragement.

Tuscon, Arizona
The Recess Rally in front of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ office on Aug. 21 was a huge success! At its peak, more than 700 people lined up down the streets with their home-made signs raised. We estimate that 1000 people attended throughout the course of the rally. (For links to pictures and video of the event, check the bottom of this article.)

Tucsonans are making their voices heard that they do not want the government screwing up their health care! Showing up is half the battle, and I believe that your voices are making a difference and changing the debate here in Tucson.

UPDATE:
19 August 2009

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio

About 7,000 people crowded into Falls River Square Wednesday night for the first Akron Tea Party.

Organizers said it was the largest Ohio Tea Party so far.

Many in the crowd wore patriotic hats and shirts, waved American and ”Don’t Tread On Me” flags and carried homemade signs protesting policies in Washington, D.C., and the direction the country is headed in general.

”I was not born in a socialist country, and I will not die in a socialist country,” Republican state Sen. Tim Grendell of Geauga County said. ”And neither will my children.”

The crowd roared its approval.

He said it is ”all American” to get involved in government and let politicians know what policy changes voters would like to see.

”It’s called the First Amendment,” Grendell said.

Instead, he charged, the government is trying to keep the people ignorant and apathetic.

Grendell also urged the crowd to support strong states’ rights and to protect their freedoms.

”I want my country back,” he said.

UPDATE:
29 May 2009
Carson, Nevada

A group of nonpartisan Northern Nevada residents, upset with what they said are the state Legislature’s harmful tax increases, will gather Friday in Carson City for the second “TEA Party” in as many months.

Organizers for the Anger is Brewing group said they expect about 2,000 people will participate in the peaceful Tax Freedom Day event in the square in front of the Legislative Building. “TEA” stands for “Taxed Enough Already.”

They said the event isn’t so much about the act of….tossing bags of tea as American colonists did to protest the British government in Boston in 1773, but to bring attention to what they said are destructive decisions by legislators that have raised taxes beyond the limits of many citizens’ ability to pay.

“We want to make the legislature understand that we’re deeply, deeply concerned about what’s happening and what’s going to happen with the budget and the effect it will have on hardworking Nevadans,” event organizer Debbie Landis said.

Tax Freedom Day marks the day when Aamericans have earned enough to pay their annual tax burden for the year, as calculated by the Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based tax research organization, Landis said. Included are all payments to governments.

Tax Freedom Day should have been April 13, Landis said, but government bailouts, stimulus tax packages and additional tax legislation at federal and state levels extended the date.

UPDATE:
What’s going on at Tea Parties
22 May 2009

……Our Times colleague Richard Fausset spent a good deal of time recently with “tea party” participants. And we asked him to go through his notes and thoughts and share the experiences with us. Here’s what he told us:

The people I talked with had a variety of targets. This doesn’t mean they went easy on Obama, however. One fake campaign sign showed a picture of the president and…

… a certain hirsute German philosopher: It said: “Obama Marx ’08 – BFF.”

Another sign featured a picture of Obama in a Soviet officers’ uniform and the words: “JUST SAY NYET.”
“Hey, is that available as a T-shirt?” a guy asked the sign holder. “It will be soon,” came the reply.

……John Pettit, a 48-year-old contractor, hoisted a sign that read “Chains – we can count on.” Pettit said the nation was “headed for bondage” with its reliance on government borrowing. Pettit’s concerns about government policy didn’t start with Obama or the current Congress, he said.

It went all the way back to the New Deal. Although he said the new guys were part of that long, sorry history by spending money that they simply didn’t have. “Hey,” Pettit said, “good habits are learned in bad times. And bad habits are learned in good times. Right now, Congress isn’t learning.”

Bobby Snow is fed up with taxes – now even more so over proposed new ones.

Snow, who owns Bob’s Quality Car Care in Verona, is speaking out against the proposed N.C. Senate Finance Committee’s new tax reform plan that includes taxing certain services.

He and other area business owners are traveling to Raleigh June 3 for the “Take Back Our State Tea Party,” a statewide protest organized by Take Back Our State Coalition against the state’s increasing taxes.

“We get taxed enough already,” Snow said. “(Legislators) are targeting taxing a few services, one being auto repair work. People pay tax on parts now, but if this passes people will have to pay tax on service as well, which will likely double what they’re paying now. (The government) needs to cut spending and do away with wasteful spending.”

UPDATE:
Rhode Island Tea Party event stops school deficit in its tracks:
Hat Tip to GraniteGrok.

Mere days after the largest nationwide anti-tax rallies the likes of which haven’t been seen since prior to the start of the American Revolution, the City Council of Woonsocket, RI (Yes, THAT RI, with a sales, income, AND property tax, basically the highest in the country…) stood poised to stick the taxpayers with a “supplemental” tax bill to fund a budget shortfall in it’s school department. Essentially, the property taxpayers– with commercial owners paying 2-1/2 times the rate– would be sent a so-called “5th Quarter” tax bill. Normally, taxes are billed and paid in quarterly payments in the year.

The citizens of that fair old city in Northern Rhode Island have apparently decided that enough is enough and they weren’t going to sit by any longer and get steamrolled with yet another tax. Faced with a new “fee” on trash pickup and steep increases in water and sewer bills, the step of a supplemental tax bill was just a bridge too far. With a head of steam generated at the eleventh hour by angry business people, residential homeowners, and plain citizens, fired up by a spirited local talk radio program a few scant hours before, suddenly,

A TEA PARTY BROKE OUT…
http://granitegrok.com/blog/2009/04/like_an_everexpanding_thing_anothet_tea.html

Here’s a description of the event by a local website:

[T]he tenor of the meeting actually began on the sidewalk outside, where a gathering of homeowners and proprietors of small businesses waved signs as they waited, before the meeting, for council members to arrive at City Hall. The signs bore slogans that included, “No Supplemental Tax Bill,” and “We Follow Our Budget.”

A sign-toting Jeanne Budnick, proprietor of Pepin Lumber, a family-owned business for generations, said the city should be forced to live within the constraints that everyday property owners and merchants deal with. In difficult economic times like these, Budnick said, another bill for the owners of businesses and homes will only make things worse for people struggling with unemployment, cuts in hours and higher health care costs.

“We all know these are difficult times,” Budnick said . “We’re making cuts left and right. I think it’s time the city lived within its means. We have to live within our means and this supplemental tax bill is the easy way out. It’s one more thing to make people lose their homes and businesses.”

These kinds of fed-up, overtaxed Americans are called “unhealthy” by the likes of David (“astroturf”) Axlerod, and ‘crazy’ by asshats like Ray Buckley, Chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

We are saddled with a batshit crazy socialist who plans on spending this country into a $9 Trillion dollar deficit. They’re the one’s in need of a fucking shrink.

From a recent Rasmussen Report:
20 April, 2009

Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans have a favorable view of the “tea parties” held nationwide last week, including 32% who say their view of the events is Very favorable.

…..While half the nation has a favorable opinion of last Wednesday’s events, the nation’s Political Class has a much dimmer view—just 13% of the political elite offered even a somewhat favorable assessment while 81% said the opposite. Among the Political Class, not a single survey respondent said they had a Very Favorable opinion of the events while 60% shared a Very Unfavorable assessment.

One-in-four adults (25%) say they personally know someone who attended a tea party protest. That figure includes just one percent (1%) of those in the Political Class.

……On many issues, there is a bigger gap between the Political Class and Mainstream Americans than between Mainstream Republicans and Mainstream Democrats. That was true on the tea parties, but Mainstream Republicans do express a more positive view of the protests than Mainstream Democrats. Still, a majority (54%) of Mainstream Democrats had a favorable opinion of the tea parties.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics2/51_view_tea_parties_favorably  political_class_strongly_disagrees

Guess who comprises the ‘Political Class’?

……From time-to-time, Rasmussen Reports will release data highlighting the gap between Mainstream America and the Political Class on issues of the day.

……Preliminary results indicate that 55% of Americans can be classified on the populist or Mainstream side of the divide. Only seven percent (7%) side with the Political Class. When leaners are included, 75% lean in the Mainstream direction and 14% lean the other way.

The biggest surprise so far is that a plurality of the Political Class believes the economy is getting better while 66% of those in the Mainstream say it’s getting worse.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/ideology/55_of_americans_are_populist_ 7_support_the_political_class

Rasmussen needs to clarify the meaning of ‘Political Class’. They’re basically Democrat effetes in the MSM and government, and those that support them.

Big surprise.

An observation from the Kansas City Star:

What I found most amusing about last week’s tea party protests was the palpable defensiveness of many Democrats and lefties in general.

Steve Glorioso, a Kansas City political consultant, dismissed the gatherings as something “dreamed up and promoted by the likes of Newt Gingrich and Dick Armey.” The tea party that took place in Kansas City, he said, was “basically a Republican-led, right wing conservative political event.”

……But that energy was there first and it was spontaneous, and it’s far from clear that it can be translated into greater support for Republican candidates in next year’s congressional races.

The movement began in February with a protest organized by Seattle blogger Keli Carender. Her target: the $787 billion stimulus bill. That led to rallies in other cities.
The movement acquired a name with the famous “rant heard round the world” by CNBC’s Rick Santelli, who called for a Chicago “tea party.” After that, the movement took off.

What we’re seeing is a center-right populist outpouring prompted by the long-term implications of President Barack Obama’s gargantuan budget, his spending plans, the massive tide of red ink those plans will generate — and, most important, what all that implies about the future balance between the government and the private sector.
http://www.kansascity.com/275/story/1149469.html

The Left fears and disdains what it cannot control. Ordinary middle class citizens have taken to the streets to protest–loudly–the expansion of the federal government, Obama’s seizing of banks and corporations, and the wild, irresponsible spending from both sides of the aisle.

UPDATE
17 April 2009

The nationwide Tea Parties were a rousing success. Tens of thousands of fed-up Americans have been turning out to protest Obamster’s socialist oppressive tax/spend policies that screw working Americans out of trillions of dollars for bailouts and pork barrel projects.

From Fox News:

Tonight: Thousands of people from coast to coast took to the streets for the tea party protests. And the story — it is far from over. The question now — Is this the beginning of a new era, a grass-roots conservative explosion, or a passing fancy, just a whim. Sean Hannity goes “On the Record” in moments, but first the numbers. Estimates that in Atlanta, as many as 20,000 people took to the streets, in Washington state, more than 5,000, in Phoenix, Arizona, more than 5,000, in San Antonio, between 4,000 and 5,000, in Lansing, Michigan, between 3,000 and 4,000. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,516920,00.html

Of course there was the obligatory disprespect from the effete liberal MSM, (CNN and MSNBC, in particular) who just can’t understand why average, working class Americans would be pissed off at government gouging, taxation without representaion, and THE ONE: (Video at the link)

A tour de force of bias via TV Newser, from her sarcasm to her Fox-bashing to her badgering a guy who’ll be paying off Obama’s monstrous deficits for decades about why he isn’t satisfied with a $400 tax break this year. The title of the clip is “CNN Reporter Roughed Up at Chicago Tea-Party,” which, as you’ll see, is a transparent lie unless you consider the crowd yelling at her to stop cutting off the people she’s interviewing as “rough.” But that’s par for the course for the narrative being organized here: A nasty, violent, ignorant crowd, all doing the bidding of CNN’s sinister competitor. Stay classy, Turnerites.

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/15/unreal-cnn-reporter-openly-contemptuous-of-tea-parties/

CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen could barely get through her live shot at the Chicago tea party this afternoon. Over shouts of, “You’re not a reporter,” Roesgen quickly wrapped up an interview with an attendee, then said, “I think you get the general tenor of this. It’s anti-government, anti-CNN since this is highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network Fox.”

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cnn/cnn_reporter_at_chicago_tea_party_its_anticnn since_this_is_highly_promoted_by_the_rightwing_conservative_network_fox_114141.asp

It goes without saying that Roesgen is a mealy-mouthed leftwingnut CNN hack who thought she could stick her microphone in a patriot’s face and intimidate him. No dice.

A representative from FoundingBloggers confronted the assclown soon thereafter.

A background on Roesgen by a poster at Ace of Spades:

Ah, Susan Roesgen…

I had to work with her a few times when she was still with WDSU in New Orleans. As Slublog has noted in his unearthing of her past, she’s not exactly a paragon of great journalism. She’s a self-important bitch as a colleague, and when even your anchors can’t stand you, it’s often time to think about other work.

They probably recognized her um…”qualities”.

Oh yeah, and here’s a video compilation of the contrast between Roesgen’s approach to anti-Bush demonstrators and opposed to anti-Obama protesters:
http://www.pjtv.com/video/Afterburner_/The_Cost_of_Media_Bias_-_Did_the_Media_Steal_the_Election_%3F/1736/

Congratulations, CNN. Fox News blows away the competition, including CNN. There’s a reason for that. Take a good look at her behavior and you’ll see why your ratings are in the toilet.

The MSM largely ignored the protests because they weren’t comprised of left-over unemployed 60’s radicals burning George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in effigy. When you’re talking about a 21st century Tea Party movement representing millions of people who’ve never protested before, or rarely protested, that’s something that makes the liberal media shit their pants. They’d rather ignore it than acknowlege it, or simply insult those who take a stand against THE ONE they helped put into office. Maybe a large crowd in front of the New York Times, CNN, or MSNBC might get their attention…if they come out from under their desks.

The Daily Gut sums up the media’s attitude:

……the media hates it when they can’t control the story. These tea parties were out of their hands from day one–a movement that was hard to figure and impossible to spin.

William A. Jacobson from Legal Insurrection outlines the collective meltdown of the Left over the Tea Parties:
http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2009/04/tea-parties-are-sooo-scaaary.html

The grassroots Tea Parties have scared the living hell out of the Left.

Nancy (“Blinky”) Pelosi spewed this:
“This initiative is funded by the high-end. We call it ‘astroturf'; it’s not really a grassroots movement. It’s astroturfed by some of the wealthiest people in America to keep the focus on tax cuts for the rich instead of for the great middle class.”

This is coming from a member of the party who spawned astroturf specialists like David Axelrod:

UPDATE:
16 April 2009

The Tea Parties drew tens of thousands of fed-up Americans across the country.
Just a few samples, and there’s tons of pictures at each site.

First (I’m proud to say) from my home state of Ohio:

They didn’t dump crates of tea into Lake Erie, but thousands of people gathered in Cleveland and Medina Wednesday — the last day to file taxes — and poured out their frustrations with the federal government.

They were part of a nationwide protest against higher taxes,
(http://www.cleveland.com/nation/index.ssf/2009/04/tax_deadline_brings_out_thousa.html) government bailouts and Obama’s economic stimulus plan. Organizers dubbed them “tea parties,” after the famous Boston Harbor protest leading up to the Revolutionary War.

Some protesters dressed in knickers and Colonial tricorn hats. Dozens carried signs criticizing corporate leaders, blaming them for causing the nation’s economic woes and decrying the Democrats’ plan to fix it as socialism.

Nuccio Basilisco, who emigrated from Italy as a boy, waved a sign reading, “I moved to the USA not the USSR.”

He was one of more than 1,000 who endured a chilly wind and misting rain to take part in the rally on Medina’s town square.

The event opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by patriotic songs and speakers railing against the greed that led to the current economic crisis and the federal government’s response.

Speakers included County Commissioner Sharon Ray and Matt Miller, business manager of the local Salvation Army.

“Being here tonight is the patriotic thing to do, and thank God you have chosen to do that patriotic thing,” Miller said before starting a chant of “Freedom.”

The turnout was even larger in Cleveland, where more than 2,000 gathered on Mall C downtown. Speakers included former military members, small-business owners and performers who shared their disgust with current policies in all branches of government.

“We want to make sure that our government understands that we have some gripes with them,” said Roger Chaplin, one of the Cleveland Tea Party organizers. He said they plan to hold rallies throughout the summer.

TAX DAY PROTESTS 15 APRIL 2009

Chants like “Give me liberty, not debt” and “Our kids can’t afford you” were heard across several U.S. cities Wednesday as anti-tax “tea party” protesters took to the streets to voice their opposition to big government spending.

Thousands of protesters — some dressed in colonial wigs with tea bags hanging from their eyeglasses — showed up in states from California to Kentucky to Massachusetts, holding signs and reading speeches lambasting the Obama administration’s tax-and-spend policies.

“I have two little kids and I know we are mortgaging their futures away,” one protester at a rally in Austin, Texas told FOX News. “It makes me sick to my stomach.”

The demonstrations are part of a larger grassroots movement against government spending called Taxed Enough Already, or TEA — giving name to the Tax Day Tea Parties — and come more than 235 years after the original Boston Tea Party revolt against taxes.

Crowds of up to 5,000 are expected in 300 cities in 50 states, including New York, Atlanta, Tulsa, Philadelphia, Boston, Hartford, and Indianapolis.

Thousands of anti-tax “tea party” protesters took to the streets Wednesday in some of the nation’s biggest cities — including Boston, Tulsa, and Sacramento — voicing their opposition to high taxes and big government spending.

Close to 2,000 demonstrators in Boston — some dressed in colonial wigs with tea bags hanging from their glasses — held signs and read speeches lambasting the Obama administration for its massive spending plans.

Hundreds of Nebraskans chanted no taxation without representation in protest of increased government spending spawned by the stimulus bill at the state capitol Saturday.

The tea party style protest is intended to mimic Revolutionary War era protests where citizens believed they were being unfairly taxed.

But instead of throwing bags of tea in the water, protestors at today’s rally brought cans of pork and beans to symbolize their unhappiness with pork barrell spending.

Protestors say elected officials aren’t listening to their concerns and the massive spending plans enacted by the government place an unfair tax on Americans.

UPDATE:

Santa Barbara, CA

With cries of “Repeal, recall, revolt!” several hundred demonstrators took to downtown Santa Barbara’s streets Saturday to protest big government and big spending.

“I’m here because I’m worried about the direction our country is going,” said Anita Dwyer, a Lompoc resident.

Billed as Santa Barbara’s “Big, Cool Tea Party,” the gathering attracted people from as far away as Oregon as taxpayers turned out to voice their discontent over the way President Obama and Congress are handling the U.S. economy, with increased taxes and spending. Sacramento was singled out for its share of criticism, too.

UPDATE:

Long Island, NY

Chanting “Give us rain, give us thunder, we won’t let the government plunder,” a crowd of more than 300 sloshed through puddles to protest what they believe to be government tyranny by dumping two boxes stamped “tea” into Northport Harbor.

“I’m very unhappy with the administration, where they are bringing the country . . . we don’t need bigger government,” Theresa Baron, 41 of East Northport, said at the Freedom Friday Tea Party. “Let the free enterprise work. The government doesn’t have to solve every problem.”

UPDATE:
Buffalo, NY
In 1773, a small group of dissatisfied American colonists dumped tea into the Boston harbor to protest King George III’s taxation without representation.‘

More than two centuries later, at least 300 unhappy local taxpayers gathered on the Buffalo waterfront to protest a variety of similar issues, including generous state pensions and high taxes throughout the state, and to demand government reform in Albany.

“Our government has failed us,” said Joanne Snyder of Grand Island. “I’m tired of having to eke out a living.”

Snyder was among hundreds of protesters who attended the “Western New York Tea Party” this afternoon at the Buffalo Harbor. The event was to let Albany know that residents are not happy with the way things are run at the state capital.

UPDATE:
Stamford, Connecticuit

The tea bags that dangled from Kort Walsh’s hat danced in the morning breeze Saturday as more than 200 angry taxpayers gathered in front of the Ferguson Library to protest bailouts and President Barack Obama’s $3.5 trillion budget.

“I’m in complete and total distress over what is happening,” said Walsh, a 20-year Stamford resident. “Everything that was promised is now 180 degrees from what is happening.

“Not a single campaign promise has been fulfilled, from staffing to transparency to earmarks. (Obama) goes beyond socialist. He’s a Marxist.”

As Walsh spoke, members of the Connecticut Tea Party — a statewide grass-roots group invoking the spirit of the 1773 Boston Tea Party that led to the American Revolution — waved placards stating, “Obama Socialism,” “Stop the Madness” and “Big Gov” in a circle with a line through it. A continuous stream of motorists along Bedford and Broad streets honked in support. A similar tea party held the previous week in Ridgefield drew a reported crowd of 300.

“There is no common sense in the Beltway whatsoever,” said Faith Burns, of East Granby. “The bureaucrats and the politicians, they just push the emotional issues. We have to fix the banking system, and to do that, free market capitalism needs to work. We are goose-stepping toward socialism.”

UPDATE:
Raleigh North Carolina:

Pork got a lot of attention at the State Capitol on Saturday.

People dined on it. They held signs about it and greeted a pig-suited mascot who wandered the crowd to draw attention to it.

The pork of interest, though, had nothing to do with the tangy treat of North Carolina.

This pork had the unsavory flavor of government waste.

……”Don’t tread on me,” the assemblage chanted above a cacophony of bagpipes, marching bands and the toot-toot of antique car horns as Raleigh’s delayed St. Patrick’s Day parade passed nearby.

Their signs spoke even louder.

“I’ll keep my money, freedom and my guns. You can keep the change,” one read, playing on the “change” campaign slogan of President Barack Obama.

“Pork is for BBQ. It is not a stimulant,” another sign stated.

……Those in attendance said the government, by intervening in the markets, is rewarding the irresponsible behavior of executives and home buyers who made bad bets. And, protesters said, government leaders are burdening taxpayers with their actions.

UPDATE:

Orlando ‘Tea Party’ rally draws more than 4,000

……”This is maybe the greatest single gathering of God-fearing patriots in the history of Orlando, Florida,” local conservative radio host Bud Hedinger, who emceed the event, told the crowd.

The attendees, many of whom said they’d heard about the rally on Hedinger’s radio show, brandished flags and homemade signs bearing slogans such as “Repeal the pork or our bacon is cooked” and “Obama lied, liberty died.”

“We’re really scared about what’s happening in our country,” said Debby Whisenand, 71, of Largo in Pinellas County. She waved a sign that read “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money” on one side, and “You can’t blame Bush anymore” on the other.

Her feelings were shared by Lisa Feroli, one of the event’s organizers, who said that a similar fear motivated her to e-mail Hedinger with the idea for the Orlando Tea Party.

“The goal was to get people united, to let people know that they aren’t alone in their feelings on despair,” Feroli said. “We want to speak out against the push toward socialization that we feel is taking place in our country.”

Several speakers addressed the crowd, estimated by Orlando police and event organizers at 4,200, on a variety of topics, including gun rights, freedom of speech, the dangers of communism and, most prevalently, the economy, especially the Obama administration’s bailout plan.

“We have had enough of massive government-driven bailout using our money,” Hedinger said, prompting the crowd to start chanting “U.S.A.” over and over.

UPDATE: Check out this video summary of the Tea Parties:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M0ZOMXPzQ0

This grassroots movement is gaining real momentum….Now, contrast that with this:

Few supporters are answering ….Obama’s call for nationwide house-party gatherings this weekend to build grass-roots support for his economic stimulus plan.

A McClatchy survey of sign-up rosters for a score of cities across the country revealed only 34 committed attendees in Tacoma, Wash., as of midafternoon Friday; in Fort Worth, Texas, only 54, and in Sacramento, Calif., just 78.

“Before the election, we would have had 500 to 800,” said Kim Mack, 46, a Sacramento city-facility manager who’s hosted house parties for political figures and causes since the mid-’90s.

Even in Washington, policy-wonk capital of the nation, only about 500 people had signed up.

Damien LaVera, a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee, objected to the characterization that few people had responded. He called the interest level “considerable” for what he described as “the first national call to action aimed at helping to keep people informed and active in advancing (Obama’s) agenda.”
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/61724.html

Yep, there’s a ‘call to action’, alright…just not the kind THE ONE envisioned.

[Purists will insist that Santa Monica is not part of Los Angeles. Fine, then: rumor has it that a handful of people will also be at the Federal Building in Westwood, on the South side of Wilshire, with signs, on "protest corner." That is in Los Angeles, but it appears that the crowd in Santa Monica will be larger. With a little thought one could go to Santa Monica in the morning, and still make it to Westwood for Friday night rush-hour traffic. Instigators include the Bear Flag League (Yay!), and KFI's John and Ken (Ugh!).]

If there’s one near you, try to attend.

    Andrea,
There’s a reason why your state is called “Taxachusetts”. Who do you think pays for all that welfare? I live in north east Ohio. We have great medical care, especially the world renouned Cleveland Clinic and St. Vincent Charity. No one (so far) has taken away our choice of doctors or treatment. But, the economy sucks. (See the P.S.)
Your beloved “president” is a socialist who takes from those who earn (the”evil rich”) and gives it to special interests, the SEIU, and a bloated welfare sysytem. He’s taking our economy to hell in a Marxist handbasket. Some people have wealth envy to the point where they’re insane.
Newsflash, sweetpea: Nothing is “free”, not even your “tax credit”. The government will compensate in the form of tax increases. The taxes on my Army pension have INCREASED. Trust me, I don’t make that much.

Have you bothered to read any of the Dems’ ObamaCare bills? I have.
    Just a few examples:

    http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2009/08/19/the-devil-in-the-details-of-the-obamacare-bill/

    http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/pelosi-dems-hold-democracy-hostage/

    http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2009/12/21/the-tax-hikes-in-the-reidobamacare-bill/

Oh yeah, and the so-called “stimulus” is a farce:

    http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/where-that-stimulus-money-goes/

    http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2009/11/17/shocker-obama-lied-about-stimulus-created-jobs/

By the way, I come from a working class family. All of us worked. We did not go on welfare. I was a hardworking Soldier for 30 years. Now retired, I take care of the family home and a disabled sister.

And I speak perfect English as well.
Here’s a language lesson for you:

    http://sfcmac.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/how-to-speak-douchebag/

I’ve never bothered to have my IQ tested, but I’ll venture a guess that it’s “average”. People who brag about a “high IQ” (so??) usually don’t pass the common sense test. You cannot spend your way out of a deficit. It’s not rocket science, Einstein. Buying into socialism doesn’t make you smart; it just makes you socialist. I also have a college degree. I’m Irish-Scots-German-Cherokee. Otherwise known as a “Heinz 57 caucasian”

The Tea Party movement is comprised of citizens like me, who are sick to death of outlandish government spending, waste, taxation, and interference with our rights.

    “It’s the CONSTITUTION, stupid”.

You may not mind, but I know best what to do with my money, not the government. Free market enterprise thrives and jobs are created when there’s less government and more freedom of individal choice.

Tell your kids to enjoy the coming $23.7 trillion (and possibly more) deficit that they will be saddled with! Make sure they know to pass that information on to their children, as well.

    Three jobs won’t be enough.

    SFC MAC

PS: One more thing. I live in an area dominated by Dems and their like-minded constituents. It hasn’t worked out so well.
