Remember John Kerry’s insult?:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Well, the following little blurb of witicism comes from somone who wasn’t smart enough to use the sidewalk so he wouldn’t get run over.
“I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright. So, that’s my little commercial for that.”
—-Stephen King at a symposium for high school students at the Library of Congress
Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters, blogged about King’s idiocy and took him to task by reminding him:
Nice sentiment when the nation is at war, Stephen.
The horror writer got his panties in a wad and responded:
”That a right-wing-blog would impugn my patriotism because I said children should learn to read, and could get better jobs by doing so, is beneath contempt,” he said in a statement posted on his Web site.
King said he supports the troops but believes the war in Iraq is ”waste of national resources … and that includes the youth and blood of the 4,000 American troops who have lost their lives there and for the tens of thousands who have been wounded.”
”I live in a National Guard town, and I support our troops, but I don’t support either the war or educational policies that limit the options of young men and women to any one career military or otherwise,” King said.
King also encouraged his fans to tell Noel Shepard to “shut up”.
Newsflash, Stephen: You impuned the intelligence, dedication, and courage of Soldiers in the United States Army with your patently false, mealy-mouthed pot-shot.
Since you think fighting back against Islamic cutthroats who operate across the Middle East, ensuring that they don’t get another chance to use planes as human-filled missiles, or succeed in subjecting Western civilization to a brutal Caliphate is a “waste”, then perhaps you can show us exactly how best to ’spend our natural resources’. Barring capitulation, that is.
You worthless fuck.
Just so you’re aware, the U.S. Army has a higher literacy rate than the population at large. We are required to read and comprehend Field and Technical manuals that cover military occupations, equipment, weapons, and combat operations. I have an Associates’ Degree in Applied Science thanks, in part, to the GI Bill. Made the Dean’s List twice. Not bad for a former Soldier who “can’t read”.
People far better than you, joined to serve the country and take a stand against the Islamofascist aggression that started this war to begin with.
I guess you were too busy making profits from your latest gory novel to remember that.
This is such elitist garbage. And what is ridiculous is that he thinks he is being supportive of our military. What a moron. I think that fiction writing is important in society. We need to be entertained from time to time – to shut ourselves off from the garbage like this. I’ve actually considered pursuing that career myself, but it in no way makes one more intelligent than our military. They are the best and the brightest this country has to offer. Why do so many employers give veterans more consideration? Because they know they will do a better job generally speaking. They are highly intelligent and they aren’t “worthless f****” like him.

Jesse- they just got SLAMMED with folks trying to register.
I’ve been waiting on that list since BEFORE that idiot writer made more of an ass of himself– news flash, world doesn’t revolve around letting you be a jerk on their dime.

I guess Pat Tillman was unable to read, had a low IQ, or nothing better to do with his life?
king – you arrogant, elitist, scumbag. I think you need to do your part for the earth – stop producing carbon dioxide, and let your body turn into fertilizer so at least there is some value to your otherwise useless existence. Or, even better, spend some time shoulder to shoulder with the military folks you disparage, and see just how they perform when at risk for life and limb – maybe you would re-assess their efforts to preserve the freedoms that you so profoundly misuse, and don’t appreciate.

You’re more than welcome to it, SFC MAC.
